How to Apply 

Follow the steps below to review International Admission Options, Visiting Fredonia, Deadlines, Requirements, Tuition & Aid, and then Apply.

Direct Admission

Direct Admission means that the student meets all the requirements for the academic program and can demonstrate English proficiency by submitting one of the following:

  • SAT verbal score of 480 or,
  • TOEFL score of 79 or,
  • IELTS score of 6.5 or,
  • Duolingo score of 105 or,
  • C1 Advanced (Cambridge English Advanced) score of 176 or,
  • C2 Proficiency (Cambridge English Proficiency) score of 180 or,
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 53 or,
  • Cambridge IGCSE O-Level, AS Level or A Level English Language score of C or,
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) higher Level English A: Literature or Higher Level English A: Language and Literature examination score of 4 or,
  • Having obtained 30 successful credit hours from a college or university within the United States.

Pathway Program Admission

Admission into Fredonia's Pathway Program means that the student meets all requirements for the academic program except for the English language requirement. The student will be admitted into the Pathway Program for the major of their choice and will be enrolled in English classes as well as credit bearing courses.  Upon successful completion of the English and credit bearing classes the student will fully matriculate into their degree program.  To meet the minimum requirements for the Pathway Program, please submit one of the following:

  • TOEFL score of 45
  • IELTS score of 4.5

Fredonia's admissions team has arranged a multitude of ways for students to visit campus in whatever manner students are most comfortable; whether it's individually, with family, or with small or large groups.

Our admissions offices are located on the 6th floor of Maytum Hall, near the Central Ave entrance to campus. Daily Admissions Information Sessions and Tours take place in the Williams Center. Follow the Campus Tour signs along Ring Road for parking.

Application Requirements for International Undergraduate Applicants

First-Year applicants are students who have never taken a college level course after graduating high school. If you have taken even one course after high school graduation you must apply as a transfer.

  • Please submit:
    • Secondary school transcripts
    • Proof of graduation (when available)
    • Financial Statement Form - Submit the Financial Statement form and original documentation proving you have funds to pay for all educational and living expenses for the first year of study.
    • Passport - A clear photocopy of the identification page of your passport
    • Demonstrated English proficiency - TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, IB English, Pearson Test of English or the A-Level English Exam will be required. Eligible students will either receive direct admission or admission into our Pathway Program. Please see below for additional details. Our school code for reporting the TOEFL and IELTS scores electronically is 2539.

Transfer applicants are students who have taken college level courses after graduating high school but have not obtained a Bachelors degree.

  • Please submit:
    • Proof of high school graduation
    • University Transcripts
    • Course descriptions - You may email a link to your college catalog course descriptions or submit a word document with all of your course descriptions.
    • Transcript evaluation through a NACES-accredited transcript evaluation service, such as Spantran, for any college/university level courses taken outside of the United States.
      • If using Spantran, please request a divisional course analysis evaluation. 
    • Financial Statement Form - Submit the Financial Statement form and original documentation proving you have funds to pay for all educational and living expenses for the first year of study.

Second Baccalaureate applicants are students who have already obtained a Bachelors degree but are interested in obtaining a second degree from Fredonia. Please apply as a transfer student and we will update your application accordingly.

  • Please submit:
    • Proof of high school graduation
    • University transcripts
    • Course descriptions - You may email a link to your college catalog course descriptions or submit a word document with all of your course descriptions.

Cost and Scholarship

Fredonia is proud to offer approximately $8 million in merit and need based scholarships to academically qualified new and returning students each year! International applicants will be reviewed for all merit based awards at the time of acceptance and will be notified shortly after. For more information please visit us at Scholarship Information

We estimate the total costs for one year at Fredonia (to include room, board, tuition, fees, meal plan etc.) to be $34,381

  • Tuition costs are estimated at: $17,490
  • Living costs are estimated at: $16.891
    • *All first semester international students will be assessed a one-time international fee of $180
  • If you have dependents, you need to show the following additional funds:
    • Spouse: $4,000
    • Child: $2,000

Apply to Fredonia

The easiest, fastest and most secure way to apply is online; paper applications are also available. Fredonia accepts The Common Application and the SUNY Application

Choose one or the other, but please do NOT submit both applications. If you need assistance applying online, you may download a paper worksheet for the SUNY Application.

There is a $50 application fee. For information on fee waivers please contact your high school guidance counselor or the application processing center. Please follow these steps to complete your application to Fredonia.

* The SAT/ACT requirement has been waived.

  • Official Transcripts from ALL colleges you have attended
  • Students with fewer than 30 credit hours are required to submit a high school transcript. 
  • For 2nd Baccalaureate students, please notify admissions, at admissions@fredonia.edu, to let us know you have applied and already have a bachelors degree.
  • All transfer students are required to submit proof of high school graduation. An official high school transcript, copy of diploma, or GED certificate are appropriate.
